Hyderabad-headquartered semiconductor design firm Azimuth AI, in partnership with Cyient Semiconductors, has unveiled ARKA GKT-1, India’s first-generation intelligent power platform-on-a-chip (SoC). This milestone marks a significant leap forward in India’s semiconductor design capabilities and reinforces the country’s ambitions to become a global hub for semiconductor innovation.

Developed over two years with an investment of ₹150 crore, ARKA GKT-1 integrates multi-core custom computing, advanced analog sensing, memory, and intelligent power management into a single, energy-efficient silicon chip. The chip is engineered for high-efficiency edge AI and smart energy sectors, addressing markets such as smart utilities, advanced metering, battery management, smart cities, and industrial automation.

The platform is built on Azimuth AI’s proprietary Software-Defined Silicon architecture combined with Cyient’s expertise in mixed-signal, power, and low-energy Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). This collaboration offers a flexible silicon foundation designed for both domestic applications and global markets.

Unveiled by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and IT, the ARKA GKT-1 symbolizes India’s progress toward semiconductor self-reliance, advanced manufacturing, and leadership in next-generation chip technologies.

Krishna Bodanapu, Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Cyient Semiconductors, described the program as a true custom ASIC turnkey solution, covering design, fabrication, outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) management, and final chip delivery. He affirmed the strategic mission to increase India’s semiconductor design components and IP ownership locally.

Azimuth AI’s CEO, Praveen Yasarapu, highlighted the chip’s capability to bring intelligent, low-power silicon at the edge, catering to rapidly growing sectors like energy management and industrial intelligence. Commercial production of the chip is expected by mid to late next year.

This launch coincides with India’s broader Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) initiatives, which have recently received approvals for significant investments aimed at strengthening the domestic semiconductor value chain.

Overall, ARKA GKT-1 represents a defining moment in India’s semiconductor journey by delivering a world-class indigenously designed intelligent power chip tailored for critical global industries, positioning the country as a future leader in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
