Australian Freelance Platform Airtasker Raises $6.5 Million in Media Investment to Boost Marketing and Brand Visibility

Airtasker, Australia’s leading online marketplace connecting people with local freelancers and service providers, has raised $6.5 million in a media-for-equity deal aimed at significantly amplifying its marketing efforts and brand presence, particularly in the UK market.

The investment was secured from 4 Ventures, the venture arm of Channel 4, Britain’s major media-for-equity partner. As part of the deal, 4 Ventures acquired a 20% equity stake in Airtasker’s UK subsidiary, providing the platform with access to Channel 4’s extensive media assets and reach across more than 47 million viewers in the UK, equating to approximately 78% of the nation’s population.

This strategic partnership builds on Airtasker’s successful experience in Australia, where a similar media capital collaboration with the Seven West Media network helped the company grow revenue by 25 times over five years while dramatically boosting brand recognition from under 6% to over 60%.

Tim Fung, CEO and Co-Founder of Airtasker, highlighted the critical role of media capital in growth and profitability. “When you build your brand, you truly own it. Media capital has been the largest ingredient in scaling our global presence and customer acquisition,” he said.

In the UK, Airtasker plans to leverage the partnership to drive a new marketing campaign focused on educating consumers about the platform’s convenience and reliability for local services—from home repairs and cleaning to delivery and moving assistance.

This media investment complements Airtasker’s broader global expansion strategy, which includes recent ventures into the US market supported by over $50 million in media partnerships with Sinclair Broadcasting, TelevisaUnivision, and iHeartMedia.

By channeling funds into broad-reaching advertising and brand-building initiatives, Airtasker aims to close the awareness gap with dominant local competitors and accelerate user adoption in the world’s largest digital freelance marketplaces.

Overall, Airtasker’s $6.5 million media investment partnership underscores the growing importance of innovative marketing capital structures in scaling tech platforms internationally, blending financial investment with powerful media distribution to fuel growth.
